Food security has always been the heart of ADRA Somalia’s mission. For more than two decades, hunger has weakened the citizens of Somalia and the stability of the struggling nation. By implementing our successful food programs, we have helped combat this crisis. Our work in Jowhar District, Middle Shabelle Region, and Hiran has fostered an environment for food sustainability. In these regions, we have rehabilitated irrigation canals, introduced greenhouse technologies, reintroduced productive rice varieties, formed farmers’ associations, and developed better agricultural training programs.
Our Capacity Statement further highlights the projects, programs, and people of ADRA Somalia.
Country Overview
Somalia is a land devastated by war. For 20 years, it was considered a failed state, with no government, no law, and no hope for the half million people who died of starvation during the famines of 1992 and 2010-12. Tribal conflicts have produced chaos throughout Somalia, destroying the infrastructure and restricting access to food, water, education, and health care for millions of people.
