Capacity Statement OverviewIn July 2010, ADRA Laos began implementing the Mok Mai Integrated Development Initiative, a provincewide project aimed at supporting local communities. To accomplish this, ADRA Laos tailored specific programs for individual communities, within the broad sectors of primary health care and natural resource management. Since 2010, we have built latrines, supplied access to clean drinking water, helped implement sustainable farming systems, and provided training in sanitation, land management, health, and income-generating activities.
Our website further highlights the projects, programs, and people of ADRA Laos.
Country OverviewWith 74 percent of the population living on less than $2 per day, Laos is one of the poorest countries in East Asia; 80 percent of the population depends on the 5 percent of land that can support subsistence farming. Consequently, food security is a constant struggle. Additionally, public dissent is a serious offense in Laos, and the nation’s human rights record has become a subject of international scrutiny.
