North-Eastern Nigeria has become increasingly tense and volatile since June 4, 2014, when the fundamentalist group Boko Haram killed nearly 500 people in the state of Borno.

Less than a week later the group was suspected of kidnapping 20 young women from the village of Garkin Fulani close to the location of the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in April, according to CNN.com.

The insurgency and violence has left more than 5 million people in North-Eastern Nigeria homeless. It is reported that approximately 3 million of these are women and children.

ADRA is already in the country and is planning to soon start providing food for 744 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been gravely impacted.

ADRA has also trained 2,000 youth in disaster and emergency management through the ADRA Youth honors program.
